A landscape gardener ran a successful family business for two or three generations. The staff was happy and motivated. Customers loved to visit the store and to have the staff work on their gardens.
A tradition in the business was that the owner always wore a big lapel badge, saying Business Is Great! The business was generally great, although it went through tough times like any other. What never changed however were the attitude of the owner and the family tradition of wearing the badge. The badge used to trigger a conversation, which involved the owner talking about lots of positive aspects of business and work. The business owner would often confide, “The badge came first. The great business followed.”
Everyone wants job contentment but few seem to be happy with what they do. Happy and satisfied workers realize their potential. Happiness runs through their families and they make a positive contribution to their work just by being positive and spreading positivity.
How can one find contentment at work? The most important thing is to change the way we look at it. We all need a constant reminder for us like the Business is Great badge. It will make us see more positives than negatives. This attitude will lead to contentment. The biggest positive that we often forget is the fact that having work is far better than not having one. There are several who don’t have work or a regular source of earning. One wonders if those who have work should have any reasons to complain. In fact they should wear a badge saying something like I am blessed to have work.
